I have a hard time believing my writing is worth letting other people read, so as part of getting myself to write again, I'm also challenging myself to post anything that turns out as a finished piece, be it essay, character sketch, poem, story or whatever. This is the first, based on the image prompt.

Song of the Bow
I am the bow,
And I myself the arrow
That shall fly forth
Out, out, over the waves of that vastness
Of dark water
Out into the mystery of sunset.
I am the bow,
And I myself the arrow
To pierce the hearts
Of all who are blind,
Not out of inability or ignorance,
But willfully, wantonly.
If they will not see,
Then they will not see me coming
Launched from the bow of myself
To puncture their self-importance
And destroy them
As mistletoe destroyed Baldur.
I am the bow
And I myself the arrow,
Set, pressed, aimed and released to fly
At the will of Artemis,
Of Athena,
Of Diana,
Goddesses of the Hunt
Each and all.
What arrow ever knows
Until she strikes
What her target was?
I can only trust
And fly true.
I am the bow
And I myself the arrow,
Released without sight,
Into the wild sunset glow
Whatever my mission was,
I will trust that it is done,
And that I may fly free
As far as my string
And the tension of my arms
Can fling me,
Soaring in joy
To whatever adventure awaits
Beyond sea,
Beyond sky,
Beyond stars,
I am the bow...
